Who is Jesus?
For as long as humans have been alive, we have been making sense of our existence through stories. Who am I, or how do I find out who I am? What’s the point of life, or what constitutes having a good life? What should be done about evil? We see these sorts of questions explored through what we traditionally consider mediums of storytelling, such as the arts, media, books. Even if we’re not avid book readers or movie viewers, we can identify the stories that have formed us by looking at assumptions we have about life and reality.
You may or may not have given thought to these stories and assumptions–where did these stories originate from, and are they worthy of being lived? Christianity claims that there is one story unfolding all through human history, originating from a good and generous God. At the center of the story is a person named Jesus of Nazareth, who historians both Christian and not agree was undeniably a revolutionary figure. His impact on human history has been unparalleled–much of what we take for granted when it comes to human rights, universal education, caring for the poor, and scientific study can be traced to the impact of Jesus’ life.
The Christian hope is that Jesus’ life was not accidental, but part of a loving Creator’s greater story. This resource will guide your explorations as you begin to contemplate who Jesus is by engaging with excerpts from the bible.
